Community FARE is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2011 with the mission of diversifying, expanding and safeguarding a healthy local food economy that will preserve the integrity and biodiversity of farmland in Frederick and surrounding counties and ensure food access to the regional population. To achieve these goals FARE initiated the Frederick County Farm to School program and formed the Frederick County Food Council (FCFC).
This Frederick Fresh Online marketplace was organized by FARE and the FCFC Ag Economy Working Group to support local farmers by increasing market opportunities, provide consumers with safe easy access to local foods, and to strengthen the safety and resiliency of our local food economy during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.
FFO is a nearly all volunteer operation. Volunteers help in many ways including order aggregation, transporting orders to pick-up locations, marketing and outreach, data analysis, and more. Our operations include expenses such as credit card fees, use of our software platform, and supplies. FFO charges one $3 order processing fee for each customer's total weekly order to help cover these expenses.
